Ralph Fulton draws inspiration from nature, everyday moments, and the interplay between people, animals, and their environments. His paintings emerge from lived experiences, anticipated actions, and imagined dreams, featuring intuitive icons that build each composition. Color serves as his language for conveying emotion and meaning, while his work often creates a unique dialogue where viewers find themselves observed by the subjects within.
Working in acrylics on wood panels and canvas, Fulton earned his BFA from Eastern Illinois University and trained under James and Peter Anderson at Shearwater Pottery in Ocean Springs, Mississippi. He co-owned Chicken Farm Pottery in Nacogdoches, Texas before moving to Austin in 1978, where he raised four children while working as a carpenter. In 2014, while encouraging his grandchildren to embrace art, Fulton rediscovered his own creative passion and has painted daily ever since.
Ralph has opened Gallery Outside the Square in Lockhart, where visitors can experience his vibrant work firsthand. When he's not painting, he continues to build furniture and plays trumpet with an Austin band.
